Blaster & Spray Painter Operatives Training

This training is now the most specified recognized training scheme for industrial Blasters and Spray Painters craftsmen in the world.

Protective Coatings Applicator

Protective Coatings Applicator is a mandatory module of the training package.

Abrasive Blast Cleaning Operative

Trainees with successful completion of the Protective Coatings Applicator, can proceed on a 3 days Abrasive Blast Cleaning Operative Training Course.

Spray Painting Operative

Trainees with successful completion of the Protective Coatings Applicator, can proceed on a 3 days Spray Painting Operative Training Course.

Training Objectives

Upon successfully completion of this training, trainees will be able to;

Ensure Professionalism by:

> Promoting good working practice.
> Having a thorough insight into methods of surface treatment and application of protective coatings.

Demonstrate knowledge and core skills in:

> Identifying potential hazards for blasters/sprayers.
> Understanding how to protect adjacent surfaces & the environment.
> Understanding the power source/air supply for blasting & spray painting.
> Understanding how to clean surfaces by hand or with power tools.

How to Identify:

> The different equipment used for surface preparation.
> The different abrasives used for surface preparation and methods used for dry and wet blasting.
> Paint types and the importance of correctly mixing coatings and film thickness.
> Brushes & rollers used for coating applications.

Understand/demonstrate the:

> Use of airless or conventional paint spraying systems.
> Use of appropriate PPE for each task.
> Manual handling techniques for individuals & teams.
> Routine checks, setting up lines, start-up & shutdown of compressors.
> Degreasing & cleaning surfaces.
> How to prepare surfaces using power tools.
> Preparing & working with due regard to a risk assessment.
> Equipment & methods for abrasive blasting.
> How to mix single & two pack coatings.
> Applying paint to surfaces using a brush or roller.

Understand the:

> Measuring wet film thickness with a wet film gauge.
> Applying coatings using airless or conventional spraying equipment.

Course Information

  • Our training courses are attended by both operatives completely new to the industry or by experienced blasters and painters who need to a certified training.
  • Course can be run for a minimum of 5 candidates and a maximum of 10 candidates..
  • All courses include both a theory and practical session.
  • Questions will be encouraged at any time, including site specific queries.
  • All Trainees Receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Certification

All successful students receive a Certificate and ID card. The ID card is personal to the student and is renewable every 5 years.

Who is it for

Candidates who are new or willing to join the industrial coating industry as a blaster or spray painter and candidates who are already in the coating industry which includes but not limited to blasters, spray painters and hand brush painters in the oil & gas sector, marine, rail, road, etc.

Pre-requisites

There are no pre-requisites required for Blaster/Spray Painter Training.

Training Pathway

The Blaster/Spray Painter Training and Competence Levels

Trainees with less than 12 months experience will receive an ORANGE TRAINEE CARD on successful completion of Protective Coatings Applicator which is a mandatory module of the training.

  • Course Duration:  5.0 Days 

To be granted a BRONZE CARD participant must have worked in the protective coatings industry for more than 1600 hours (more than12 months) and successful completion of the mandatory module Protective Coating Applicator.

  • Course Duration:  5.0 Days 

To be granted a SILVER CARD participant must have worked in the protective coatings industry for more than 1600 hours (more than12 months) and successful completion of Protective Coating Applicator and along with either Abrasive Blast Cleaning Operative or Spray Painting Operative.

  • Course Duration:  3.0 Days 

To be granted the GOLD CARD participants must have worked in the protective coatings industry for more than 1600 hours (more than12 months) and successful completion of Protective Coating Applicator, Abrasive Blast Cleaning Operative and Spray Painting Operative (all three modules).
